Volunteer Opportunities Available

This page lists Chapter positions available for you to volunteer for. If you’re interested in one of these opportunities or in volunteering in another capacity, contact volunteer coordinator Aiessa Moyna via e-mail at amoyna@juno.com. Be sure to specify the volunteer job that interests you. If you don’t have a specific job in mind, then specify the skills or experience that you have to offer, as well as any skill set you would like to develop, plus the number of hours each month that you can devote to volunteerwork.

Hospitality Coordinator

Supports regular meetings and special events in New York and New Jersey. Creates registration checklists; generates and prints name tags for attendees; and greets attendees and registers walk-ins at events.

Meeting Arrangements Assistance

Hospitality Manager

2 to 5 hours per month

Supports regular meetings and special events in New York and New Jersey. Secures appropriate meeting space to accommodate planned activities; plus coordinates food and beverage service, as needed.

Newsletter Associate Editors (multiple)

NY-Metro News Editor

2 to 5 hours per month

Ongoing

Supports the bimonthly NY-Metro News, the official New York Metro STC Chapter newsletter. Writes original column for each issue. Suggested topics include book or software reviews, member profiles, job market updates, current events, standards or legislative trends of general interest.

Newsletter Layout Editor

25 hours over 2-3 weeks during each bimonthly production cycle.

1-year or 2-year term

Responsible for the design of the bimonthly NY-Metro News. Designs each issue, laying out articles, photos, charts and illustrations, ads and other design elements; ensures observance of STC standards for newsletter production; and helps prepare Chapter's entry in the annual STC Newsletter Competition. Excellent visual design and layout skills, advanced experience with Adobe® InDesign® or other publishing software and ability to meet deadlines are required; familiarity with newsletter production process is a plus.
